We all know that being organized can make our lives easier. Not only that but being organized can also make your home look better. Unfortunately, getting organized isn’t easy for everyone.
You may have too many items for your home, or you may just be overwhelmed. Let’s take a closer look at why you’re having trouble getting organized.
You Have Too Much Stuff
Do you consider yourself a hoarder? Are your floors covered with items you can’t seem to part with? If you have too much stuff, it can be hard to get organized.
If at all possible, you want to purge items you don’t really need. This might include old newspapers, magazines, clothing you no longer wear, toys your kids never play with, or collectibles you no longer care about. If you don’t want it or use it, get rid of it.
You Keep Expecting Miracles
You may be the type that buys a lot of storage containers, but never gets organized. It’s not enough to buy these containers. You need to have a way to implement their usage. What are you going to store inside? Where are you going to put them? Are they the right size for your needs? It’s not enough to just buy storage containers, you have to consider your storage needs and make sure the containers are going to work for you.
You’re Overwhelmed
One of the biggest reasons people don’t get organized is that they’re overwhelmed. It can be overwhelming to look around and see all the areas that need to be organized. Instead, focus on one area at a time. Start with a small and easy area and work your way up. As you complete one area, you’ll be motivated to do another area.
You Don’t Have Enough Time
An excuse you might make is that you don’t have enough time. The truth is you do. Spend just 15 minutes a day organizing your home and you’ll be amazed at how far you can get in such a short period of time.
I've actually spent the last couple of months going through each room of my house at a time. I only spend about a half hour a day on this project, and after several months, I'm almost done! It helps me keep the overwhelm down because I don't feel like I have to spend all day working on the project, and I can't make a huge mess working only a half hour a day.
You Don’t Have a Home for Things
In order to be organized, everything needs a home. When you don’t have a home for everything, you have no idea where to put it. For that reason, everything just stays on the counter or your dining table.
Take the time to make a place for everything and put everything away when you’re done. Plus, then you'll know exactly where that item is the next time you need it!
Getting organized can be overwhelming and take time, but it’s not impossible. Even if you’ve struggled with this your whole life, you can get organized once and for all.
