Do you hate doing laundry? Welcome to the club. Most people hate doing laundry and that’s why it’s a chore that’s often put off to once per week.
Of course, if you have a family of four or more that weekly chore is a real nightmare. It seems as though everyone in the house has run through their entire wardrobe and maybe even borrowed some clothes from friends. Where does it all come from?
If you’re tired of slaving away on laundry day, let’s look at some laundry hacks.
Skip Sorting
I heard that gasp, but the truth is once clothes have been washed a couple of times you don’t have to worry as much about colors bleeding.
If you are worried, get a product designed specifically for that purpose. For example, Shout makes color catcher sheets that will catch any dye that is released during the washing process. They cost around $8 to $12 per box but are well worth the money.
Wash Daily
Forget washing laundry once per week. Why? Because if you happen to get sick and miss a week, it will literally look like a small mountain has grown in your laundry room.
Each day, gather up the laundry throughout the house and wash a load. You won’t believe how much easier it is to wash clothes this way.
Tackle Tough Stains
There are so many stain removers that you can make from home. And all of them are less expensive than those you buy at the store.
For example, simple baking soda can be applied to a stain along with a bit of water. Scrub the stain until it comes out and the item is ready for the wash.
If you have really tough stains, mix 1-part Dawn dish soap with 2-parts hydrogen peroxide and allow the mixture to sit on the stain for a few hours before washing.
Triple Your Fabric Softener
Want to save money on liquid fabric softener? Get a plastic bucket with a lid and pour a bottle of fabric softener into the bucket. Next, fill the bottle up twice with water and mix it into the fabric softener. Add old washcloths to the mixture.
When you’re ready to dry some clothes, wring out one or two of the washcloths and toss them in the dryer with the wet clothes. You’ll get soft, fresh-smelling clothes and save a lot of money.
Washing laundry doesn’t have to be a struggle. There are so many tricks you can use to save time and money. Whether you’re dealing with tough stains or laundry from a large family, these laundry hacks will make your life easier.
