Has your closet become a dumping ground for your clothing, shoes, and accessories? Do you find yourself wearing many of the same outfits over and over again because you can't find anything else or everything else is wrinkled?
Sounds like it's time to start organizing. Whether you use pop can tabs to give you more hanging space or rethink that over-the-door shoe organizer, you will love these closet organization hacks.
Remove Everything From the Closet
Yes, this will take time, but you want to start with a clean space. Also, as you remove everything, you can clear the clutter. Have three boxes handy. One for keep, one for toss, and one for donate. As you clean out your closet, toss each item into one of the boxes. If you have a LOT of stuff in your closet, you may just want to have areas instead of boxes. Either way, this will really help you clear the clutter.
Add Drawers to Your Closet
You don't need one of those fancy closet organization systems. You also don't need to spend a lot of money. Go to your local discount department store and purchase plastic drawer systems. These are going to be in your closet so they don't need to be pretty. These drawers can be used for all those odds and ends. You can add old ornament boxes (0r Dollar Tree drawer organizers) into the drawers to create more organization for small items.
Use Pop Can Tabs on Hangers to Increase Storage
All you need to do for this hack is slip a pop can tab onto the top of your clothes hanger. You can then slide a second hanger through the bottom hole. This is an awesome idea to use in your child's closet. You can then pair outfits so that all they have to do is choose an outfit. It will definitely make mornings go faster. It also gives you more space in a closet.
Rethink an Over-the-Door Shoe Organizer
An over-the-door shoe organizer is good for so much more than shoes. It's the perfect place to store scarves, belts, wallets, clutches, and any other small accessory. Not only does this make your closet more organized, but it can help protect your items as well. Since each pocket is see-through, you can easily see what you have stored there.
Take Pictures of Your Shoes
If you have a lot of shoes, go to the Dollar Tree and purchase plastic shoe boxes. You then want to take pictures of your shoes and attach the pictures to the outside of the boxes. This makes it so easy to find the pair you're looking for.
Or if you have enough space, you can buy a hanging shoe organizer (I have one like this) so that your shoes take up even less room.
Shrink Out-of-Season Clothing
Last, but not least, purchase some vacuum storage bags for your out-of-season clothing. There's no sense is letting those bulky sweaters take up space in your closet during spring and summer. Toss them into a vacuum storage bag and slide them under your bed. This will give you so much more room in your closet.
Your closet doesn't have to be a catch-all. These hacks will give you more space and make it so much easier to find what you're looking for.

I just love these simple and useful tips, especially the pop can one...brilliant! I have a holding drawer that I like to use for clothes I am not quite sure I am ready to part with. I put any clothes in there I am unsure of and set a reminder on my phone for 1 month later. If after that time I have not worn anything in that drawer, off to donation it goes. It really helps with the letting go process.
Thanks for the amazing tips!
