Since I was young, my mom has made this homemade spaghetti sauce recipe and I love it! As soon as I moved out, I requested a copy of it, and I've been making it ever since. I usually double the recipe (since it's easier to use a full green pepper and onion and pound of ground beef) and then freeze the leftovers (in single meal-size containers) for easy future meals.
Homemade Spaghetti Sauce Recipe (single batch):
- ½ onion
- ½ green pepper
- ½ lb. ground beef or turkey
- 6 oz. tomato paste
- 28 oz. crushed tomatoes
- 1 tsp. oregano
- ½ tsp. black pepper
- ½ tsp. garlic powder
- ¼ tsp. crushed red pepper (try a smaller amount the 1st time to make sure it's not too spicy for you and your kids)
Chop onion and green pepper. Put in pan with hamburger and sautee. Drain fat. Add tomatoes, paste and spices. Simmer for half an hour.
