There are two rooms that can put off a lot of foul funk – the kitchen and bathroom (especially if you have boys!).
In the kitchen, it can be much easier to trace the smell. The bathroom can be a bit trickier. You may clean the toilet inside and out, mop the flours, and still smell something bad.
Let’s look at some bathroom smell hacks to get your bathroom smelling fresh and clean.
Clean the Drains
A place where hidden smells often come from is drains. Your bathtub and sink drains can have horrible smells. Body oils, hair, dirt, and who knows what else goes down your drains and eventually builds up over time.
An easy way to combat these smells and clean the drains is to pour baking soda into the drain and add white vinegar. Allow the drains to sit overnight before running water. The baking soda and vinegar reaction will bubble up and clean the drains. If you still have odors, repeat the process.
Store Plungers and Toilet Brushes in All-Purpose Cleaner
Think about it. Plungers and toilet brushes are disgusting. Instead of just placing them into their containers, fill the containers with all-purpose cleaner, such as Pine-Sol in the lavender scent.
Add enough to where the rubber of the plunger and bristles of the brush are submerged. You will instantly notice that your bathroom smells fresher.
Add Drops of Essential Oil to Toilet Paper Rolls
Want to add a nice, natural scent to your bathroom? You can add a couple drops of essential oil to the inside of a toilet paper tube to make your bathroom smell better. You can even use a combination of oils to create your own scent.
Check the Seal on Your Toilet
Every so often, you want to make sure your toilet’s seal is still holding up. If the wax ring seal of your toilet lets loose, water can seep under the flooring. Not only is this water NASTY, but it will start to create mold and mildew. This all combines for a horrible odor.
Spray Before You Go
Last, but not least, to deal with the most obvious bathroom odors, use a product meant to keep things smelling fresh (like Poo-Pourri). Skip the air freshener sprays. Use a product that you spray into the toilet beforehand. Even the Dollar Tree brand of these products work well and do what they’re supposed to do.
Add Vinegar to the Toilet Tank
Add a ½ cup of vinegar to the water in your toilet tank and let it sit for about 15 minutes before flushing. The vinegar can help neutralize and freshen any smells in the tank.
Use a Black Light to Check for Urine
If you have boys in your household and can't seem to get rid of the urine smell in your bathroom, you'll want to use a black light to check for all the urine spots in your bathroom.
You'll want to check everything around the bathroom, including the base of the toilet, toilet seat hinge caps, walls, molding, trash cans, bath mats, shower curtains, step stools, etc. Clean them if necessary.
These bathroom smell hacks will give you a much better experience anytime you’re in the bathroom. If you want a fresh smelling room, try these hacks.
