It's a fact of life...between toothpaste, mouthwash, my hair, and who knows what else, my bathroom sinks start to drain slower and slower.
However, rather than pouring harsh chemicals down the drain, I use this DIY Natural Drain Cleaner. With only 2 ingredients, you can clean your drains naturally.
- Arm & Hammer Baking Soda - ½ cup
- Distilled White Vinegar - 1 cup
Pour the baking soda over the drain followed by the vinegar. Let it sit for 10 to 20 minutes and then flush with very hot water.
As soon as I pour the vinegar over the baking soda, the solution starts to fizz and go down the drain. I usually set the timer for 20 minutes and let it sit. After 20 minutes, I start the water in the tub to bring the hot water to the bathroom, and then I flush the solution in the sink drain with hot water.
I would definitely recommend that you add this DIY Drain Cleaner to your monthly routine (along with pouring boiling water down the drain), so you're proactive about cleaning the drains. It works better to keep them clean rather than to clear out a clogged drain.
If you have a severely clogged drain, I would recommend using a snake or auger to clear up the clog.
Of course, if you've tried everything else, and the clog is within your walls, you should call a plumber to get your drain fixed.

I've used this same mixture multiple times in our own home! It works so well. I love that it uses ingredients that I already have on hand, too, so I don't have to run out and buy the chemical-laden alternative!
