Even though we have handles on our cabinets, we still get fingerprints on the ones that are most used by my kids. Our cabinets are pretty new, but your might also have years of grease layered with those fingerprints (I know our 30 year old cabinets in Michigan sure did!).
You can clean all the gunk off your cabinets with just Dawn dish detergent, water, vinegar, and baking soda (if needed).
Since my cabinets pretty much just had finger prints and a few additional spots from food that had dropped, I just used a solution of water, Dawn, and vinegar. Rather than mix up a new solution, I sprayed some of my Homemade Window Cleaner (with those same ingredients) on my cabinets and then wiped them with a microfiber cloth.
However, for heavy-duty cleaning, you can mix the following ingredients in a bowl:
- 2 cups warm water
- ½ teaspoon Dawn Dish Detergent
- ¼ cup Distilled White Vinegar
Just dip a cloth into the solution and use to clean, wiping along the grain of the wood. Be sure to dry your cabinets after washing, especially if they are wood. For even tougher cleaning, you can also mix up a paste of baking soda and water and use on the toughest spots and follow up with the Dawn/vinegar solution.
Finally, you can make your cabinets shine by adding a coat of orange, lemon, or mineral oil.
