I have a love/hate relationship with my ceramic stove top. While it doesn't have lots of places for food to drop like my old gas stove in Michigan, any liquid that falls on the burners (including water) turns into gross looking gunk that I can never really get clean (without chemicals and tons of scrubbing!).
However, since baking soda cleans everything, I decided to try it to clean my stove top, and it worked perfectly!
How to Clean Your Ceramic Stove Top with Baking Soda
First, I sprinkled baking soda all over my glass stove top, and then I covered it with a wet soapy towel and let it soak for 30 minutes.
After 30 minutes, I used the towels to scrub the baking soda paste on the stove. After it looked like the gunk was off, I used another washcloth to wipe all the baking soda off the top. Then, you can spray with DIY Glass Cleaner to get it all shiny.

Can You Use a Magic Eraser to Clean your Ceramic Stove Top?
If you don't feel like dealing with the mess of baking soda (although it's effective in absorbing grease and acting as a caustic agent against dried on gunk), you can also try to use a Kitchen Magic Eraser. It's super easy to use - just wet the sponge, clean, and then rinse the surface thoroughly. If you have streaks, you can use a glass cleaner afterwards.
What Other Products Work Well to Clean Your Cooktop?
Weiman also has some great products that you can use to clean your Glass Cooktop - including a heavy-duty cleaner and polish as well as a daily cleaning spray. You can also try using Soft Scrub to clean it.
Do You Need to Scrape Your Glass Stove Top?
If you have tons of burnt on gunk, you may also need to use a scraper to thoroughly clean your cooktop. Be very careful when you use a scraper, since you don't want to scratch or damage your stove top.

Your way works great! I usually use a razor blade to scrape the baked on off and then use the baking soda. Works fast

I use Weiman's Cooktop cream solution which is really cheap but i suppose you can make your own baking soda paste too. I put the solution over the cooked food, let it sit for 5 minutes, wet a pumic stone and then in circular motions go over the cream. Don't worry it does not scratch the stove as long as the stone is wet, ample cream on the stove and go in circular motions, fast and easy!

You can also use a magic eraser, they work miracles.

I use Weimar Spray . I actually do not use it after cooking dinner but rather in the morning while my coffee brews in the Keurig. Use a paper towel to wipe the spray off and like Magic my cooktop is spotless. Buy it at WalMart. Best price.

Baking soda doesn't scratch the surface? Having to wait till the surface cools is part of the problem for me too, if I don't get to it before bed my husband will just use a pan on top of the dirty surface in the morning creating a bigger baked on mess...huh

Baking soda is not abrasive, so it does not scratch the surface (fortunately).

I use baking soda and vinegar which works well.
