Who doesn't love bacon? I know I do! Just about everything tastes better with bacon. My dad always makes kale hash when he comes to visit us from out of town. Sounds not that great, right? Wrong...because he adds bacon to it!
Last year, my husband and I went to a Christmas party, and one of the hors d'oeuvres that I fell in love with were bacon-wrapped smokies with a brown sugar glaze. I decided that I would make some for my family since they share my bacon obsession.
These Bacon-Wrapped Smokies are perfect as an hors d'oeuvre at a party or as a snack for your Game Day party. They are best when they are served fresh from the oven, but you can make them ahead of time and refrigerate or freeze them and then pop them into the oven for fresh snacks. You can also put them into a slow cooker straight from the oven to keep them warm.
To make my own Bacon-Wrapped Smokies, first I went shopping at Walmart for some Jimmy Dean® Bacon. Jimmy Dean® makes two great premium bacon products - Jimmy Dean® Applewood Smoked Bacon and Jimmy Dean® Hickory Smoked Bacon. We ended up going with the Hickory Smoked Bacon for this recipe, but either would work great.
You just need 3 ingredients for this recipe - Jimmy Dean® Bacon, cocktail wieners, and brown sugar. Be sure to line your baking pan with aluminum foil to make clean-up easy.
I cut my Jimmy Dean bacon into thirds while it was all together in a slab rather than cutting each piece individually just because it was easier. Then, wrap each wiener with the bacon and secure with a toothpick. You want some overlap, and don't wrap the wieners too tightly. Bake at 325 degrees for 40 minutes. If you want crispier bacon, you can check how they look and increase the oven temperature for the last couple of minutes.
