Hosting Thanksgiving doesn’t always seem like the fun thing to do. It’s easy to become overwhelmed and soon the holiday turns into Stressgiving. Thankfully, it doesn’t have to be this way. There are hacks you can use to make things so much easier. Let’s look at some Thanksgiving hosting hacks.
Order Groceries Online
First things first. Skip the lines and crowded stores. You can order your groceries online. If you have a Walmart that does the grocery pickup service, all you have to do is place your order and then pull into one of the designated spots and they will even load your groceries for you. Talk about stress-free. Even picking the order up in store without the pickup service can cut the stress immensely.
Use Slow Cookers to Keep Foods Warm
Are you always trying to get things done at the same time so that everything is warm? Forget that. This causes so much stress. Instead, use slow cookers to keep things warm. Slow cookers are great for keeping your side dishes warm. Just set the slow cooker to the warm setting. This allows you to cook the meal with less stress.
I usually make my Dutch Green Beans recipe the day before and then add them to a slow cooker about an hour before the meal to reheat them and keep them warm.
Roast Your Turkey in an Electric Roaster
Does it seem like the turkey takes up all the space and everything else cooks at a different temperature? Cook your turkey in an electric roaster. This frees up your oven and allows you to knock out the rest of the food that cooks in the oven while the turkey cooks.
Prep Ahead
You want to prep ahead as much as possible. Peel potatoes the night before and store in the fridge covered with water. Bake pies ahead of time. Make dough for homemade rolls a week or more in advance and freeze. The more you do ahead of time, the better.
Go Disposable
Forget being fancy. Disposable plates are definitely the way to go. Better yet, buy an inexpensive tablecloth and when the meal is over, empty the drink cups, gather the ends of the tablecloth together, and toss everything in the trash. Easy peasy.
Get Those Leftover Containers Ready
Last, but not least, everyone is going to want to take leftovers home. Make it super easy for people to fill their own containers. Get a pack of large disposable containers and set them out next to the food. No more searching for storage containers that you’ll probably never see again.
Hosting Thanksgiving dinner doesn’t have to be stressful. You can use these hacks to make it so much easier.
