Did you know that saving money is sometimes as easy as picking up the phone? It's true. Whether it's your satellite company or cell phone provider, you can get discounts. The following are just five service providers you can call for discounts.
1. Satellite and Cable Companies
Tired of paying over $100 a month to watch TV? Calling your satellite or cable provider can sometimes lead to big discounts (like the time I cut our TV bill in half just by calling). You may be required to sign up for a 2-year contract, but the savings can be huge. You may even get free movie channels or other perks that will make the call well worth your time. If your provider doesn't want to lower your price, threatening to switch to another company can usually get the ball rolling (but be prepared to actually cancel your service if necessary).
2. Cell Phone Provider
Another bill that can reach well over $100 a month is your cell phone bill. A quick call can make a big difference, especially if you've been a customer for a while. Again, you may have to sign a 2-year contract, but you may save big. It helps to have other companies' promotions in mind so you can use them against the offers given to lower the price as much as possible.
3. Medical Care Providers
Did you know that medical care providers may be willing to lower the price of procedures? For example, some companies have financial programs for those with a low income. Some also offer discounts to those that are self-pay patients. Lastly, don't be afraid to call around and get prices from other providers and ask why your provider is charging so much more.
4. Internet Providers
Depending on the speeds you're getting, your internet bill can cost a pretty penny. If you feel there's room for improvement, pick up the phone. Yes, again, a 2-year contract may be involved to lock in a lower price. If you have a landline phone or satellite TV, you may be able to reduce the cost of both bills by combining the two – ask about that as well.
5. Credit Card Providers
Last, but not least, call your credit card providers. This is something that many people never think of, but if you have good credit, pay your bills on time, and keep a low debt to credit ratio, you can ask for discounts. The company may remove annual fees or lower your interest rate. Once you have the best interest rate on one of your cards, ask about 0% interest transfers and transfer your other card balances to that card for bigger savings.
Isn't it amazing to know how much you can save by spending just a few minutes on the phone? Whether it's your credit card or internet bill, you can save money on a number of services.
