Although gas prices have stabilized, I still try to save money on my fuel expenses each month. I want to get the best price I can on gas without driving all over town wasting gas looking for the best deal.
Should I stop at the Mobil station near my house that usually has good prices (and I get 3% UPromise savings from my UPromise Mastercard, plus a penny a gallon UPromise savings) or should I drive my Costco station where the price usually beats everywhere else (and I get 3% cash back on my Costco American Express)? Or should I go somewhere else altogether for the best deal?
When I know that I'm going to need gas, I will check the internet for the best gas prices at each of those stations, plus others that I will pass on my normal route. That way, I know where to stop for the best price. Most of the time, it may only save me a penny or two per gallon, but those pennies add up.
Plus, when gas is either increasing quickly or lowering fairly quickly, there are sometimes large differences in price at each gas station. For example, today, I saw gas prices while I was driving ranging from $1.72 to $1.89. I sure wouldn't have wanted to fill up at the $1.89 station just because I didn't know what the current low price was.
Here are some websites that can help you with your gas price search:
- Gas Buddy - you can click by state and they have either state or city web sites - this is my favorite site
- Gas Prices on Mapquest - shows you a map with stations and their prices
Do you check gas prices? How do you make sure that you get the best price?
