Sports can do wonders for a lot of children. Girls who play sports, for example, are said to have better self-confidence. The only downside is that sports can be expensive. The uniforms, driving back and forth, etc can quickly eat away at your monthly budget. Thankfully, there are ways to save money on kids sports. Whether you get a local business to sponsor the team or carpool, you can cut the costs.
Get Local Businesses to Sponsor the Team
An excellent way to cut down the cost of uniforms is to get local businesses to sponsor the team. In exchange for sponsoring the team, the companies will be advertised. For example, company logos may be placed on the uniforms or helmets or company info may be put on the game schedules. Either way, if you get enough sponsors, team uniforms may be free.
Sign Up Early
A great way for you to save on the cost of your kids being on a team is to sign up early. Many sports teams offer an early registration discount. Even if your kids are on the fence about joining the team, it can be less expensive to pay the registration fees now than to try and get your kids on the team closer to when the season starts.
Volunteer
Another way you can save money is to volunteer. You might choose to work in the concession stand, coach, hand out drinks on the field, etc. Volunteering can be a way to greatly reduce the cost of registration. In some cases, your kids may get on the team for free in exchange for your volunteer work. You may also have any entrance fees to the game waived by volunteering to help during the game (in the case of middle and high school sports).
Clip Coupons for Snacks and Drinks
Your kids will need snacks and drinks during practice. You can usually find great coupons on snacks through weekly inserts or on Coupons.com. This can also be another way you can volunteer for the team. It can be your job to supply the team with snacks and drinks and, if you're a smart couponer, you may be able to do this for free.
Carpool
Last, but not least, team up with other parents to carpool your kids back and forth to practice. This can save you so much gas money. It can also be a great way to make friends with other mothers. Get together with at least one other mother or father and create a schedule that works for both of you.
Kids sports can be expensive, but they don't have to be. There are so many small things you can do to cut the costs.
