Do you have pumpkins left over from Halloween? We had 2 small pumpkins that we got for free when we were camping. The boys decorated them with markers, but otherwise they were untouched.
After watching Foodie Daddy's pumpkin pie demonstration at the Saving Up Event (and easy recipe for no-bake pumpkin pie), I was motivated to actually try to use the pumpkins that I had sitting around. So, on Sunday afternoon, I cut up one of the pumpkins so that I could roast pumpkin seeds. However, I've read several places on the web how easy it is to make your own pumpkin puree. So, I tried it...it really is quite easy. I plan on making Money Saving Mom's pumpkin muffins (without the chocolate chips tomorrow).
Here are some of the methods of creating your own pumpkin puree (with pictures):
- Bake in the oven
- Microwave

I want to note that punkpkin seeds are also good for the garden , and can be kept for next years garden , or given to someone else for a garden , or kept till spring to be thrown down on a corner of land for another full harvest , as can gourd seeds , and those really funny lookin squashes. (that is how we got all of our many squash this year from scavanged squash seeds last year.
talk about saving money we made hundereds of lb of squash from a mere handfull of saved seed.

Thanks HappyHermit! I always forget about saving the seeds for a garden, since we don't have a large enough backyard for a garden :-).

Great idea! I donate my leftover pumpkins to the ranch I volunteer at. They rescue farm animals who get very excited when I bring them pumpkins. If you live near any type of farm or ranch you might want to consider this too? Since I always get more pumpkins then I could eat anyway.
