Wouldn’t you love to come home and immediately feel comfortable? You may think that turning your home into a cozy little nest is expensive. In reality, it’s not. There are so many ways you can make your home feel warm and inviting. Let’s take a closer look at how to make your home cozy on a budget.
Declutter
First things first. You need to take the time to declutter your home. Clutter causes stress, which can completely kill any cozy vibes. If your home has a lot of clutter, don’t get overwhelmed. Spend 15 minutes a day working on one area. Don’t think about tackling an entire room. Instead, start with an end table or the dining table. When you spend time each day, the process is much easier.
Last year, I took a few months and went through my entire house decluttering. I took about 15 minutes to an hour a few times a week and just did small projects at a time (like a drawer, cabinet, etc) so I wouldn't get overwhelmed. The better my house started looking, the more motivated I was to continue. Plus, I started in areas where we spend the most time, so I could see the progress from the very beginning (rather than starting with the back corner of my bedroom closet that I wouldn't see as much).
Paint
Paint is so inexpensive. You can purchase a gallon of paint for $30 or less. Choose a warm, neutral color. A bright color doesn’t give you the cozy feel you’re looking for. Best of all, neutral colors can work with almost anything. In other words, you may be able to paint and pair the pieces you already have to make your home cozy on a budget.
Hang Curtains
Curtains are important. You may think that adding curtains to your home will be expensive. The truth is if you buy the curtains for each room all at once, it will be expensive. On the other hand, if you add curtains to each room with each pay check, it’s not that bad at all. You can find inexpensive curtains at Walmart, dollar stores, and even Big Lots. Big Lots often has buy one get one 50% off sales.
Create a Nook
Creating a nook in a room will instantly make the space feel cozy. For example, in your living room, take two chairs and put them at an angle with a small table between the two. This is great for conversations or curling up with a good book. Add a small lamp the table and a couple of coasters for placing your drinks.
Add Soft Layers
Soft layers make a room feel warm and inviting. You want to place area rugs on hardwood floors, toss a throw blanket over the corner of the couch, place a folded blanket across the bottom of your bed, etc. These soft layers make you think of curling up and relaxing.
It’s so easy to make your home cozy on a budget. Chances are you even have pieces in your home that you can use for some of these tips. Shop your home before you shop the stores.
