Want to know a little secret? You don’t have to spend a lot of money to enjoy life. In fact, as long as your basic needs are covered, there’s no reason to spend extra money to buy happiness. Of course, we all have those things we enjoy that help us unwind after a long day. Let’s look at how to live an awesome life on the cheap.
Cut the Cord
Look, most of us enjoy watching TV. However, no one enjoys paying roughly $150 per month for the privilege. Guess what though. You don’t have to. There are so many ways to watch TV on the cheap. You can use an antenna. You can switch to a streaming service, such as Sling or Hulu. You can even watch a lot of free TV through YouTube and network channel websites/apps.
Get Quotes on Services and Insurance
No one likes to spend money on insurance and spending more than you have to is just ridiculous. You want to get quotes at least once a year to make sure you’re not spending more than necessary. The same goes for other services, such as cell service, internet, and even heating fuel. Get the best prices you can.
Do Things for Free
There are so many things you can do for free. You can download literally thousands of books from Amazon for free. If you already have Amazon Prime for shipping, you can also watch movies and TV and listen to music for free. You can also go to the library to checkout books. You can look at local Facebook groups to find information on free events. You don’t have to spend money to be entertained.
Become a DIYer
Obviously, you don’t want to jump in and decide to replumb your home next weekend. Instead, spend time researching the projects you want to do until you’re confident in tackling it on your own. Start with small projects, such as painting a room. You can find so many great videos on YouTube that will help you through a project.
Shop with Intent and Purpose
Last, but not least, stop shopping as a hobby. You’ll be amazed at how much money you waste when you’re just shopping for fun. You want to shop with intent and purpose. Think about what you actually need and buy it. Stop buying things just because they are cute or on sale. I very rarely go into a store unless I have something specific to buy.
You can live an amazing, awesome life on the cheap. All you need to do is be more conscious about where your money is going and think about how to do the things you love for less.
