Wouldn’t it be awesome to get together with your neighbors to celebrate the holidays? A Christmas block party is a fun way to bring everyone together. But how do you go about planning such a huge event? More importantly how do you throw a block party when the weather is super cold? Let’s take a closer look at some ideas to host a Christmas block party.
Choose a Date
The date is obviously important. You want to choose a date that works with as many people in your neighborhood (or street) as possible. Many people will probably be busy the 24th and 25th. A weeknight is often a good bet. You should also consider planning the party for after school has released for Christmas break. Parents will have a lot less on their plates once school is over.
Enlist Help
You can’t do it all alone and you shouldn’t. Enlist people in your neighborhood to be part of your Christmas block party committee. You can then delegate what each person will do to help. Try to lineup jobs based on what each person is good at.
Make Sure It’s Legal
Before you get too far ahead in planning the party, make sure it’s legal in your city. If you have an HOA, you also want to make sure you’re not breaking any rules. The last thing you want is for your party to be shutdown by the police or your HOA.
Consider All Ages
You want to make sure there is something enjoyable for people of all ages. Remember that Christmas is so much fun for kids. Think of fun activities that younger and older kids will enjoy. Older kids will probably congregate together with kids their own age. Regardless, you want everyone to have a fun time.
Have a Bad Weather Plan
What will you do if the weather turns bad? Obviously, a few flurries or light snow showers aren’t a problem. But freezing rain or sleet is another story. You should have a plan that accounts for this so that you don’t have to cancel. For example, you may have the idea for people to open their homes and people go from home to home celebrating the holiday. Or, if you live in a community that has a community center that you can rent out, it might not hurt to do so.
A Christmas block party can be so much fun. The key is to have a great plan and backup plan in place. Think about how you’re going to make the party fun for all ages and what you’ll do if the weather turns bad.
