Rice Krispie Treats are always fun to make, and I love how you can shape them into pretty much anything to celebrate a holiday - like crosses for Easter! All you need is to make Rice Krispie treats and then use a cross cookie cutter to cut them in the shape of crosses. Then, pipe some vines with melted green chocolate and add some sprinkles to make your Easter crosses fancy.
How Long Can I Store Rice Krispie Treats?
You can store Rice Krispie Treats for up to 3 days in an air-tight container or bag at room temperature. They'll stay fresher if you wait to cut them until you're ready to serve.
Why are my Rice Krispie Treats so Hard?
You need to make sure to be patient and use low heat to melt the butter and marshmallows. Too high of heat, and your Rice Krispie Treats will come out rock hard.
How to Make Easter Cross Rice Krispie Treats:
First, you'll need to make the Rice Krispie Treats.
Prepare a 13 x 9 baking sheet with wax paper and a spritz of non-stick cooking spray.
Melt butter in a large saucepan over low heat. When the butter is melted, add the marshmallows and melt, stirring constantly.
Remove the saucepan from heat. Fold in the cereal. Stir until the cereal is coated in the marshmallow.
Using a buttered spatula or greased wax paper evenly press the mixture into the baking sheet. Cool completely.
Then, use a cookie cutter to cut treats. If the treats are loose, press additional Krispie mixture into the cookie cutter before releasing the shape onto waxed paper. Reshape the remaining cereal in your baking pan until all are used. Press the popsicle stick into the bottom of the cross.
Place the candy coating in a microwave-safe bowl and melt on high heat, stirring every 30 seconds until completely melted. Do not overheat. If the candy is too thick, add vegetable shortening or coconut oil in 1 teaspoon increments, up to 1 tablespoon, and stir well. Do not add water. Transfer to a piping bag or zip-top freezer bag with one corner snipped.
Pipe green vines on each treat and immediately press sprinkles into place. Allow the treats to set completely before serving or packaging to give as gifts.
