For decades, shoppers have religiously shopped the Black Friday sales. But, there’s a new kid in town. Well, not exactly new. Cyber Monday has been around for a few years, but it’s still new when compared to Black Friday.
As a shopper, you may be wondering if you should head out on Black Friday or shop at home on Cyber Monday. Let’s take a closer look at whether Black Friday or Cyber Monday is better.
Black Friday Shopping
Black Friday shopping is a tradition for many shoppers. Some people love the crowds and the thrill of scoring a great deal. Shoppers also like seeing products in person to try them on, test quality, etc.
Black Friday shopping also means exclusive deals that are only available in stores (although in recent years many of the in-store deals are also available online). Another benefit is knowing you’re getting an item because it’s in your cart. When shopping online, an item can sell out while you’re shopping for other items.
Of course, we can’t overlook the fact that Black Friday does have some drawbacks. First of all, the sales start earlier and earlier each year. In some cases, shoppers have to choose between Thanksgiving dinner with their family or shopping. There’s also the crowds, cold, and – yes – violence. You have to be a hardcore shopper to be able to handle the craziness that is Black Friday.
Cyber Monday Shopping
Let’s be honest. Cyber Monday shopping is easy. You sit down in front of the computer, type in what you want, and purchase it. You can even quickly compare prices at different stores by opening additional tabs or using a coupon code.
Another benefit is that items that didn’t sell on Black Friday may be available at a deeper discount. Some stores may also have a storewide discount. For example, there may be a coupon code that allows you to save 65% off your entire purchase of regular priced items.
Cyber Monday also has some drawbacks. First of all, items can sell out quickly. Another problem is that retailers often start the sales before Monday. This means that when you go to shop, many items may already be sold out. You also have to consider that shipping costs may be added to your order.
The Winner
The truth is there really isn’t a winner. The problem isn’t with these shopping holidays it’s with sales in general. Stores have started offering deals earlier and earlier each year. Some stores even have “Black Friday” sales during the summer months.
And, if you’re hoping to score the best deals on big ticket items, neither of these options are the answer. Shopping for a new TV or even a washing machine AFTER the new year will actually get you the best deal. Even if you’re shopping for smaller items, like towels, prices continue to fall leading up to Christmas. You can score good prices during both Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but you can find great deals pretty much all year round if you know where to look.
