Who doesn’t love to curl up with a good book? What you may not love is paying almost $10 for a paperback. Books can be so expensive.
Thankfully, you don’t have to spend a lot of money to read. In fact, you may not have to spend any money at all. Let’s take a closer look at how to save money on books.
Utilize Your Local Library
First things first. Visit your local library and see what’s available. You can take home a large stack of books for free and have two weeks to read them. Many libraries also offer the ability to borrow ebooks. This means you can read for free without every leaving your home. There are so many books to choose from and this is a great way to read the latest books.
Go Digital
Not only can you borrow free ebooks through your local library, but you can download thousands of free books for free through Amazon. You don’t even need to have a Kindle. You can download the books to your computer, smartphone, or tablet. The software is free to download. If you want even more books, you can subscribe to Kindle Unlimited for only $10.99 a month and get access to millions of books.
Shop Thrift Stores, Yard Sales, and Used Book Stores
Thrift stores and yard sales are great places to find books for really cheap. It’s not uncommon to find thrift stores that sell paperbacks for $0.25 each. Yard sales may be even cheaper. The key is to look for those sales where people are wanting to get rid of stuff rather than make money.
If you're looking for something specific, you can check out your local used book store. Half Price Books is a chain near us that has a good selection of used and bargain books.
Hit the Dollar Tree
The Dollar Tree is absolutely amazing when it comes to books. You can find almost every genre imaginable and the selection is always changing. And, yes, everything is only one-dollar. You can find books that retail for $45 or more. You have to take your time and dig through the selection, but it’s a great way to save money on books.
Become a Book Reviewer
Last, but not least, there are a number of publishers that will give you free books in exchange for book reviews. Some companies offer ebooks and others offer actual copies. This is a great way to discover new authors.
Shop the Warehouse Stores
Costco and Sam's Club may not have the best selection of books, but you can get the most recent new releases at a deep discount. You can often also find fun kid's books (like Minecraft or Marvel books) at great prices.
Check Amazon's Price
If you have a specific book that you want to buy at the best price, be sure to check Amazon. It's often less expensive than Barnes & Noble (which is usually listed at full price), and you can often find a used book version of the book also.
You don’t have to spend a lot of money on books. There are so many great ways to save. Whether you visit the library or hit the Dollar Tree, you can save money on books.
