Dead spots in the lawn, broken walkways, dead plants, weeds – when people see these things, they aren’t excited about coming into your home. The curb appeal of your home can greatly decrease your home value.
Exterior Color of the Home
It can cost thousands to repaint a home. If your home’s exterior is a strange or bold color, buyers can be turned off. No one wants to buy a home and then have to think about painting the outside of the home.
Limited Natural Lighting
If your curb appeal is topnotch and buyers make it through the door, your home needs to have good lighting. Most people want a home to have natural lighting throughout the home. If your home is mostly dark, it can hurt your home value.
Bold Interior Paint Colors or Wallpaper
While it’s easy and affordable to paint the interior of a home, bold colors are a huge turn off. Walls should be a neutral color. When it comes to wallpaper, if it’s ugly, dated, or just a bold choice, buyers will immediately start thinking about all the work needed to remove it.
Needed Repairs
If there are several repairs that need to be done to your home this will greatly hurt the value. As buyers walk through the home, they’ll be adding up the costs of the needed repairs or just be turned off completely.
Dated Kitchen
Most buyers aren’t looking for a 5-star chef’s kitchen. They are, however, looking for a kitchen that has nice countertops, cabinets, and a shiny sink. A dated kitchen will send most buyers running.
Awful Bathrooms
Last, but not least, bathrooms are a big deal. If your bathroom has been used and abused, buyers will notice. Even if a bathroom was redone a few years ago, wear will decrease your home value.
