A family road trip can be so much fun. Unfortunately, there are so many mistakes you may make that will ruin the trip. Whether it's planning too much or not getting your car checked ahead of time, you want to avoid these mistakes. Let's take a closer look at mistakes to avoid when you plan a family road trip.
Planning More Than Your Kids Can Do
You may plan a road trip that takes your kids to a new town that has so many fun activities to do. What you need to keep in mind is that kids can get tired. If the trip prevents them from getting their nap, you may have cranky kids on your hands (which typically means cranky parents too!). Plan a trip that allows the kids to sleep in the car and then choose one or two fun things for them to do. Don't over-plan.
Forgetting to Pack Snacks and Entertainment for the Road
You want to have snacks for the road so that you don't have to stop at gas stations. Gas stations can be so much more expensive than picking up your snacks at the grocery store. Pack a cooler with drinks and a tote bag with snacks. You also want to bring coloring books, travel games, and other things to keep the kids entertained on the road.
Not Getting Your Car Checked Out
If you're going on a long road trip, you want to make sure your car is in good working order. Get your car serviced ahead of time. The last thing you want is for your car to break down or your air conditioning to give out in the middle of the trip through the South.
Not Being Prepared for Emergencies
You also want to be prepared for any emergencies. Have a first aid kit in your car along with an emergency kit for your car. This would include jumper cables, flares, tools, etc.
Traveling Non-Stop
Last, but not least, even if your kids are entertained, you want to make sure you take stops along the way for them to stretch their legs. Let them get out and run around. This can also be a great way for them to work off that excess energy so they can take a nap. You may not make great time, but your family will have a much better time.
A family road trip can be so much fun, but you need to do a bit of planning and preparing. This will ensure that your road trip is enjoyable for everyone.
