Nielson's Homescan Consumer Panel is looking for consumers to join their panel. Have you ever heard of Nielson's TV ratings? Homescan is from the same group, but they influence consumer products that we buy every day like groceries and household goods.
Basically, when you submit your information, you will either be accepted, go on a waiting list, or you'll get a message that they are not looking for people in your area. I signed up last year, and I was accepted into the program a couple of months later. They sent me a scanner to scan the UPC codes for all the products that I purchased as well as enter any coupons, etc. that I used. Once a week, I'd connect the scanner to my computer and upload the data. It was fun to do and I wanted to continue, but I found it a little too much for me at the time. It was nice to know that my shopping habits were influencing manufacturer's, though.
Plus, each week that you enter your data, you earn points that you can redeem for prizes. Also, they will periodically send you small gifts in the mail. So, if it sounds interesting, you can sign up here. If you decide you don't like it, it's as easy as sending back the scanner in the prepaid box.

I understand about it being too much. I was selected and just received the scanner and information this week and after looking over the information I think I will be sending it back. It looks rather complicated and time consuming especially when you use coupons and do deals as all that information has to be recorded. Plus you would have to scan everything before you put it away (or else drag it all back out again later) and sometimes I don't go grocery shopping until 10pm and that is the last thing I want to do when I get home!
