Does your family seem to get bored during the fall? It can be hard to transition from summer to fall, but there are so many fun things to do. Best of all, you won't have to worry about your budget because these activities are very affordable. Let's take a closer look at some fun, cheap activity ideas for fall.
Apple Picking
Apple picking is an excellent way to spend a fall afternoon. Not only is your family going to get exercise, but you'll get a better price on apples. Best of all, you're able to pick the ripest, prettiest apples. Many orchards also have delicious treats to purchase, such as fresh apple cider and apple cakes and pies.
When we lived in Michigan, it was an annual tradition to visit an apple orchard. They always have tons of activities, and we loved to buy donuts and apple cider to enjoy while at the orchard. My husband usually managed to bring home at least one jar of apple butter, too!
Hayrides
If your family has never been on a hayride, you're really missing out. If you live in the city, find a nearby farm in the country that offers hayrides. These become easier and easier to find the closer it gets to Halloween. Some farms even host special events to raise money and the hayrides may be free.
Corn Mazes
There's something special about going through a corn maze. Many farms offer corn mazes for both children and adults. These are very affordable, usually costing less than $5 per person. The closer it gets to Halloween, you'll also see haunted corn mazes that are open at night. Be sure to choose one that caters to the ages of your children.
We've been to several different corn mazes, and it's a great family activity! My kids love to lead the way and try to find our way out of the maze.
Nature Walks
Fall is the perfect time to be outdoors. The bugs are gone, the weather is cool, and it's gorgeous. Why not go for a hike to enjoy the beautiful fall colors? Even a walk through the local park can be a nice experience. Take pictures along the way, especially if you see wildlife. When you get home, the kids can do research to learn more about the animals they saw.
Baking
Last, but not least, baking is one of the best fall activity ideas. You get to spend time together making something delicious. You can bake cookies, cakes, or even pies. Why not use those apples you picked to make a delicious apple crisp?
Fall doesn't have to be boring. There are so many fun things to do that will get your family away from the TV. Whether you take a walk or pick apples, you can do something that everyone will love. Best of all, you don't have to spend a lot of money to do it.
