Sometimes we just need to step back and reevaluate how much money we’re spending. Other times, we’re in a financial crunch and really need to stop spending. Regardless of the situation, a no spend challenge can be a great way to handle things. The only problem is that many people have trouble sticking with it. Let’s take a closer look at how to stick to a no-spend challenge.
Dust Off Those Old Movies and Board Games
Instead of going to the movies or doing something else that takes money, why not use what you have? Go through your closet and get out those old board games the family used to love. Go through your movie collection and have a movie night. There are so many ways to have fun without spending a dime.
Look for Ways to Do Things for Free
There are so many things you can do for free. You can download books from Amazon for free. You can find movies and TV shows to watch on the Roku for free. There may even be community events happening in your town that are free to attend. You can even try a number of things using free trials. Just remember to cancel the trials before you’re charged.
Find Other Ways to Stay Entertained
If you shop as a form of entertainment, this is a good time to find other things to do. Have friends over for dinner. Go for a walk around your area. Go through your craft stash and finally start using the craft supplies you’ve accumulated. You do not have to shop in order to have fun.
Live Off Your Stockpile
Instead of rushing out to the store, use what you have in your stockpile. Go through what you have in your pantry and freezer and make a meal plan based on what you have. It’s good to eat down your stockpile every so often so that foods aren’t expiring.
Get Creative
Last, but not least, you need to be creative to make it through a no spend challenge. The first week or two may be easy, but the last couple of weeks may be harder. This is when you’ll be down to the last few odds and ends in your pantry and be bored with what you have around your house. Get creative. Have fun with it. Get the family involved.
It can be hard to stick to a no spend challenge, but you can do it. You just need to rethink the way you do things. Not only can a no spend challenge help you now, but you’ll learn to spend less once you do go back to spending.
