Because I use my dishwasher to clean dishes and soap is constantly running through the appliance, I would think that the inside of it would stay clean. However, that's not necessarily the case.
When I took a good look at my dishwasher, there were a few problem areas that could be cleaned. For example, there was all kinds of gunk built up where the door closes and a few discolored spots on the inside. But, how to clean a dishwasher with minimal effort?
My easy way to clean the dishwasher - a cup of distilled white vinegar!
Add a full cup of vinegar to the top rack of your empty dishwasher and run a full cycle with the hottest water. When the cycle is finished, your dishwasher should be clean.
I did need to use a combo paper towel, toothbrush, and q-tips to clean the gunk inside the door, but the hot water and vinegar had softened it up, and it came right off.
After I ran the vinegar through a cycle, I also added a packet of unsweetened Kool-Aid Lemonade (you can also use Tang) to the detergent dispenser and ran the dishwasher through another cycle to get rid of the rust spots inside.
