Each summer, my boys are super excited to go to camp for a week. As mom, I love for them to get the experiences with friends (and away from all electronics for a week), but I also worry about my boys being responsible enough to keep all their stuff organized.
Here are six summer camp organization ideas:
- Shop early. Typically you'll receive a list of needed items for camp when you register. Check the list when you first get it to see if you need to make any purchases. You don't want to be running around town the night before camp buying things.
- Label everything. I have some Mabel's Labels that I stick on everything (and I mean everything). Last year, I even added a label to my oldest's pair of glasses since he lost them the previous year!
- Use the list. When you are packing your child's bag for camp, use the list and cross each item off as you pack it to ensure you don't forget anything.
- Use a Gallon Plastic Bag for each day's clothing. To help my boys keep their outfits organized (and to hopefully get them to at least change their underwear each day), I use a separate gallon plastic bag for each day of the week. I add a shirt, shorts, underwear, and socks to each bag. Once they've worn that outfit, they can put it in their laundry bag. Or, you can use a separate bag for all the shirts, shorts, underwear, etc - whatever you prefer!
- Pack a few extras. Even though you have packed a plastic bag for each day of the week, be sure to pack a few extras - shirts, shorts, underwear in case things get wet.
- Pack a laundry bag. Add a laundry bag to their camp bag and encourage your child to use it. It makes organizing after homecoming much easier.
