Let's face it. We all need a family vacation every now and then. But do you really have to spend a fortune for a good time? The truth is there are several ways to save money on a family vacation. Whether you get a package to your favorite theme park or pack some snacks for the drive, you can save money.
Consider Buying a Vacation Package
Whether you're going to a large theme park or on a cruise, a vacation package can save you a lot of money. For example, Disney offers packages that include the cost of your hotel room, park tickets, and even meals. If you're going on a cruise, your meals are often included in the price. The great thing about this option is there's no guessing about how much you'll need for meals. The only things you'll have to worry about are souvenirs and possibly snacks.
Research Websites for the Best Deal
If you don't plan on getting a vacation package, consider researching websites like Trivago to find the best deals on hotel rooms and flights. It can take a bit of time, but it can save you a lot of money.
Go to a Travel Agent
Don't want to spend the time looking for the best deals? Go to a travel agent. A travel agent always has access to great deals. They can also recommend a lot of destinations that you may not have considered. You can also get recommendations on all the places to visit while you're on vacation. Travel agents may also be able to get you discounts on the attractions you want to visit.
Pack Snacks for the Road
If you're traveling by car, you want to make sure to pack snacks (and possibly even lunch) for the road. This can save you so much money. Each stop at a convenience store can set you back at least $5-10 per person. If you're driving a long way, this can cost a lot of money. Hit the grocery store and pick up some snack packs along with some drinks for the cooler. By the way, snack machines at a hotel can cost a fortune. Be sure to bring some extra snacks and drinks for the room as well.
We usually pack sandwiches for the first day of our road trips in a cooler. Depending on the weather, we will eat lunch at a rest area. Or, if it's too hot or cold, we'll eat out for lunch and eat our sandwiches in the hotel for dinner after we arrive.
Shop Around for Souvenirs
Did you know that many drugstores, such as Walgreens, carry souvenirs? This is a great tip if you're going to Disney. Walgreens has many Disney souvenirs at a fraction of what the theme park charges. You can also find outlet stores that carry souvenirs as well.
A family vacation doesn't have to break the bank. There are so many great ways to save money. Whether you go to a travel agent or shop around for your souvenirs, you can save money on a family vacation.
