More and more people are heading to the beach with their Kindles and tablets (and I'll admit...I'm in love with my Kindle Paperwhite!). But is it really a good idea to take your tablet to the beach?
The truth is there are a number of reasons why you may want to reach for a real book. Whether it's the value of the book or not having to worry about battery life, there are benefits to having a real book at the beach this summer.
1. It Doesn't Matter If You Lose It
If you love to read, you may take your book with you wherever you go. If you happen to lay your book down in the restaurant and forget it, it's not as big a deal as if you left your tablet. In fact, your book may still be there when you return. Chances are your tablet won't be. You can always stop by a grocery store or drugstore to pick up a new book. Replacing your tablet will be much more expensive.
2. Sand or Water Damage Is Less Devastating
Let's say you're reading by the pool and someone decides to make a big splash. If the water lands on your book, you will need to spend time letting it dry out. If the water lands on your tablet, you will be searching for a large bag and rice and hoping the water doesn't damage your tablet permanently. Again, it's much more affordable to replace a book than a tablet.
3. Books Are Less Likely to Get Stolen
You can leave your book on your towel while you enjoy a swim and chances are it will still be there when you get back. Even if you have a cheap tablet, it may get stolen. Don't you want the freedom to be able to leave your things on the beach and not worry about them getting stolen?
4. Easier to Read in Sunlight
More and more ebook readers are being made with glare-free technology. However, you may still find it hard to read in direct sunlight. If you want to read while laying in the sun, a real book is your best bet. Nothing is easier to read than a real book.
5. No Worrying About Dead Batteries
Last, but not least, what's worse than finding a great lounge chair, getting comfortable, and discovering your tablet's batteries are dead? If you bring a real book, you don't have to worry about batteries. You can enjoy each and every page until you've finished the book.
As you can see, there are so many benefits to bringing a real book to the beach this summer. The only downside is that if you love to read, you may need to make extra room if your luggage for all the books you want to read. Otherwise, it only makes sense to have paperbacks to read at the beach.
