If you read about my CVS trip this week, you'll remember that I had some trouble with the cashier at my CVS and the B1G1 free Children's Throat Cooler coupon. She ultimately allowed me to use the coupon, but I wanted to make sure that I was not doing anything wrong when I argued my case for using the coupon.
So, I e-mailed CVS' customer service. They responded with the CVS coupon policy, which I'm going to post for everyone. You might want to print it and bring it with you in case you ever run into any problems at the register.
- CVS/pharmacy will accept coupons printed from the Internet. They must have a legible barcode that scans at the register.
- If the coupon does not scan at the register, the cashier should politely inform you that we are unable to accept your coupon. We do not allow manual overrides at the register for coupons printed from the Internet.
- Our registers are set to allow 1 CVS coupon and 1 manufacturer coupon per item. However, the staff should be allowing customers to use Extra Bucks in combination with other CVS coupons since these are coupons you have “earned.” In addition, similarly they should be allowing the use of “offer at the register” coupons which would be an open offer of $3 off of $15 or a certain dollar amount off of a specific item. Since our registers are programmed to only accept 2 coupons (1 CVS, 1 manufacturer) per item if the number of coupons exceed the items purchased a member of management will need to assist the cashier in processing the coupons. I apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.
- You can use coupons towards a clearance item but the coupon will be adjusted if it is more than the price of the item.
- The BOGO coupon allows you to purchase 2 items and get them both for free. With the manufacturer’s coupons you can combine one with one CVS coupon. You will be responsible for any tax due.

This is great information to have Corrie! Thank you for taking the time to post it for us. I have a few CVS stores in my area and 1 always gives me a hard time with my legit coupons! Very frustrating!

Thanks for sharing this with us -
I've always been a little shy about combining coupons ...
Because many of our local CVS sales clerks are a little intimidating.
But, I'm going to print this off as you suggested, and have it with me when I shop there.
Thanks for helping me build up my CVS confidence 🙂

Thank you sooo much for the info. Also can you "swap" cvs register coupons you dont use?
Corrie at "Cents"able Momma
OrdinaryMomss...what do you mean by "swap" the coupons?
Kim
"You can use coupons towards a clearance item but the coupon will be adjusted if it is more than the price of the item. "
I had this issue yesterday 1/27/10 coupons were less than the purchase price too... Manager would not let me use coupons on clearanced items. i called customer service..they told me it was up the the store discretion... do i didnt get my good deal!
Corrie @ "Cents"able Momma
I'm sorry that you had trouble with your coupons at CVS, Kim! It's surprising to me that they wouldn't adjust the coupon, since the coupon policy that I posted is straight from a CVS customer service rep.
I guess I'll have to e-mail and see if there's an updated policy. I don't normally use coupons on clearance items, since I use the insert method and rarely have coupons with me except for the ones I intend to use.

On the CVS Deals Week of 3/7/10 , Posted: 06 Mar 2010 01:45 PM PST, it showed stacked manuf. coupon usage. I did this and was told they only take 1 manuf. and 1 CVS per item. Please tell me why you list it this way if it can't be used?
Corrie @ "Cents"able Momma
Hi Sharlene,
I'm not sure exactly which item that you're referring to, but it's true, you can only use 1 manufacturer and 1 CVS coupon per item (plus any ECB's that you might have).
I usually list multiple coupons on my deals posts just in case my readers don't have the best coupon for the deal. They can then choose another coupon to use.
Hope that helps!

It certainly doesn't appear that way. With the list of coupons you show, you then say you can get it as cheap as... (total of all coupons stacked)
Select Kellogg’s Cereals or Pop-Tarts, 4/$10
Get $5 ECBs (Limit 1)
$1.50/2 Frosted Mini-Wheats, All-Bran or Raisin Bran printable
$1/2 Kellogg’s Fruit Loops, exp. 4-18-10 (RP 03/07/10)
$1/3 Kellogg’s Cereals, exp. 3-21-10 (RP 02/07/10)
$1/3 Kellogg’s Pop Tarts, exp. 4-4-10 (RP 02/07/10)
As low as $0.50 ea. after coupons and ECBs!
That is very decieving and embarrassing.
After putting them all together, time, and then shopping, time, I was embarrassed to learn it can't be done.
Corrie @ "Cents"able Momma
Sorry about the misunderstanding! In the best case scenario (where you can get it for $0.50 each after ECB's), this is what you would use:
Buy 4 Raisin Brans 4/$10
Use (2) $1.50/2 Raisin Bran printable
Your total would be 4/$7
Plus, you would get $5.00 in ECB's, making the net price to be 4/$2 (which is $0.50 each)
I usually only include "or" between each coupon if there is a coupon that CAN be stacked, and then I would indicate AND between the coupons.

Corrie @ "Cents"able Momma
You're welcome. I'm sorry that you have so much trouble in your store...my CVS store is one of my favorite stores to shop in. I guess it just varies by store!

I was just at CVS last week buying cereal that was on sale and I had about 6 1.00 off coupons for the cereal and the girl would not take them all, she said I had exceeded the coupon limit for that one same item that I was purchasing. I can't find anywhere where it says that there is a limit of how many same item coupons I am allowed to use.
Corrie @ "Cents"able Momma
I hadn't heard that before, although I know that some coupons (like P&G coupons) do state a limit of like coupons. I would e-mail CVS customer service (or call) and see what the corporate policy is regarding using like coupons.

If CVS has BOGO and I have a manufacturer's coupon for BOGO , are both items free?
