Day 11: Inventory Current Holiday Decor {30 Days to Get Ready for Christmas}

In my quest for a slower and more meaningful December spent with friends and family, I plan on completing 30 Days of tasks to get ready for Christmas before Thanksgiving...and I invite you to join me.

Day 11: Inventory Current Holiday Decor

Tomorrow, we're going to discuss planning our holiday decor (don't worry...you don't have to put it up yet).  But first, we need to inventory what decor we currently have, including decorations from past years, as well as any purchases you may have made in the after-Christmas sales last year.

As you're going through your decor, now might be a great time to pare down any decor you don't love and are absolutely sure that you won't use it this year (or future years).  You can donate any items you don't want anymore to a thrift store, and I'm sure there is someone else who will be thrilled to get that item.  If you're not going to use something, there's no point in continuing to store it year after year.

Our Holiday Decor:

As part of my grad school program years ago, I lived in Germany for about 8 months.  One of my favorite things to do during December was to go to the Christmas Market in the city-center.  There were so many wonderful wooden German decorations for sale.  I purchased many of them, since I wasn't sure if I would ever be back to Germany again at Christmastime.

When my kids were born, I kept those items packed up tightly (since they're fragile and expensive), but I've been thinking that since my boys are now 9 and 6 that this will be the year that I'll bring out my German decorations again.  After 9 years, I definitely need to go through the box(es) and see exactly what I have.

What about you?
