The Sparkle Box Book: Review + Giveaway

Update: And the winner is…Milian O.  I have sent the winner an e-mail, and he or she has 48 hours to respond with contact information or I’ll have to choose another winner.  Thanks to everyone who entered!

At Christmas-time, my kids are so excited about gifts – in fact they’ve been thinking about their gift list for over a month now!  I completely understand the excitement since I felt it when I was their age.

However, my goal is for them to also think about giving to others this time of the year.  I don’t want to diminish their excitement for gifts for themselves…but to also get excited about what they can do for others too.  The Sparkle Box is a great story to read with them to help them understand why we give.

About the book:

The moving story of an uncommon gift and how giving to others shows a little boy the true meaning of Christmas.

Sam is so excited about Christmas! He’s thinking about his Christmas list, anticipating holiday parties, and puzzling over one very mysterious gift — a sparkly box sitting on the mantel above the fireplace. In the midst of the festivities, Sam and his family participate in various acts of kindness to others. On Christmas morning, when Sam finally opens the Sparkle Box, he finds only slips of paper that record the family’s good deeds. Sam’s parents explain that the things that they’ve been doing for others are, in fact, a gift for Jesus — for Jesus said that whatever we do for the least of these, we do for Him. This heartfelt story will inspire readers to adopt this faith-centered tradition in their own homes. Ages 4-8.

Includes a glitter-coated fold-out Sparkle Box!

My Thoughts:

My boys both enjoyed reading the book with me.  I thought the story was great at showing how the things we do for others are really gifts for Jesus’ birthday.  The way the story was written, it keeps you wondering what’s in the box as the family does different acts of kindness.  Plus, the illustrations in the book are wonderful (which you can see in the book trailer).

I also really like that there’s a Sparkle Box included with the book.  I plan on putting it up in our house, and I’m sure my 6 year old will remind me to add slips of paper to it when we do things for others.

Ideals Books has offered to give one (1) lucky reader a copy of The Sparkle Box Book. You must be at least 18 years old and a U.S. resident to win.
