The Magic Eraser has been wowing people since it hit store shelves in 2003. And why not? The amount of things you can do with this product is amazing. From cleaning tire rims to your microwave, you’ll wonder why you wasted time with so many other products.
What is a Magic Eraser?
The Magic Eraser is made from melamine foam which is a great abrasive cleaner. It acts like a very fine sandpaper on stains and is great at getting them out and then absorbing the stain.
Just dampen the sponge with water and get started on cleaning. Be sure to test a spot before using to make sure that the Magic Eraser won't damage whatever you're cleaning. Plus, you might want to wear gloves when using since it is an abrasive cleaner.
How to Save Money on Magic Erasers?
You can actually cut your Magic Erasers into smaller pieces so that when it starts to break down, you can throw that piece away and just grab another new piece.
You can also buy generic melamine foam pieces that are similar to the Magic Eraser brand and use them. They are quite a bit less expensive per block.
Let’s take a closer look at some cleaning hacks using a Magic Eraser.
Clean Marks Off Walls, Furniture and Painted Baseboards
Whether it’s crayon, marker, or simple scuff marks, the Magic Eraser is great for taking marks off walls and painted baseboards. This will save you so much time and frustration. If you have a toddler, you definitely want to have a few of these on hand.
When my youngest son was a toddler, he somehow got hold of a Sharpie and used it to scribble all over our coffee table. Luckily, I thought to grab a Magic Eraser and was able to get all off it off the table!
Be careful using Magic Erasers on glossy painted surfaces or furniture with polyurethane, since it can make them look dull. However, if you are cleaning up toddler art in an emergency, I would rather take my chances on a dull paint finish that I can eventually touch up versus definitely having to touch up the paint to cover the "art".
Get Tire Rims Shining Again
Are your tire rims caked in dirt or even brake dust? Just wet the sponge and put in a bit of elbow grease. Your rims will be sparkling again in no time. Best of all, you won’t have to pay a pretty penny to have your car detailed.
Make Your Favorite Mug Look New Again
Do you have a mug that you use almost daily that’s starting to look a little worse for wear? Those dark marks will usually come off easily with a Magic Eraser. Even if you’ve scrubbed and scrubbed with a regular sponge, you may be able to make the mug look new again.
Remove Adhesive from Glassware
Ugh. Don’t you hate when you remove a sticker from a piece of glass and the glass remains sticky? Instead of taking the time to let it soak in vinegar, just use this handy sponge. It easily cuts through the adhesive.
Say Goodbye to Stuck on Grease
Do you have glass baking dishes that have handles covered in baked on grease? Instead of giving up on these pans (or soaking in vinegar), use a Magic Eraser. It will take some scrubbing, but the grease will come off, making your pans look new again.
Use It to Clean Your Microwave
Last, but not least, you can use the product to clean your microwave (if the vinegar trick doesn't work). Even the most stuck on spaghetti sauce splatters will wipe off with ease. Just wet the sponge and wipe away the mess.
Clean a Fiberglass Shower
If you don't want to use my bathroom soap scum recipe, you can also use a Magic Eraser to get the soap scum off your fiberglass bathtub, shower pan, and shower surrounds. You can also use the Magic Eraser to clean the soap scum off your shower door glass.
The Magic Eraser is such an excellent cleaning product to keep on hand. While you can certainly clean your tub and shower, you can also clean a number of things around your home – inside and out. From microwaves to walls, you’ll be amazed at what you can clean.
