In my quest for a slower and more meaningful December spent with friends and family, I plan on completing 30 Days of tasks to get ready for Christmas before Thanksgiving...and I invite you to join me.
Day 21: Plan Christmas Dinner Menu
Now that you've gathered your favorite holiday recipes, today's the day to start planning your Christmas dinner. If you are very traditional and you eat the same items every year, then today's job should be easy.
However, if you aren't so traditional, you might want to ask your family members (and anyone else you've invited to dinner) for some menu ideas.
If you are trying to cut down on your budget (or just simplify your holiday) and you've invited local guests over for dinner, perhaps you could ask some of your guests to bring specific menu items. In the early years of my marriage, my mother-in-law made everything for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner. However, the last couple of years one of my sisters-in-law and myself started providing the desserts - just a small contribution, but one less thing my mother-in-law needed to worry about.
Our Holiday Dinner Menu:
I plan on making homemade cinnamon rolls for breakfast on Christmas morning, and then I'll have a ham warming up in the slow cooker throughout the day (the Costco ham is my favorite!). Plus, I can premake cheesy potatoes and pop them in the oven before dinner. I'll probably add some corn to the menu as well as Dutch Green Beans that my mom always made in the past.
What about you? Do you have a traditional Christmas dinner with turkey or ham?
