I’ve been a big fan of the Love Comes Softly series (written by Janette Oke) ever since I purchased the original movie years ago. In fact, we own almost all of the movies in the series.
I was excited when I saw that the most recent movie in the series, Love’s Christmas Journey was just released on DVD at the end of October.
About Love’s Christmas Journey:
While still mourning the loss of her husband and daughter, recently widowed Ellie visits her brother Aaron and his children for Christmas. Ellie does her best to enjoy the holidays, even making new friends. Settling in nicely, Ellie also meets Erik, a young man abandoned by his outlaw father whom Aaron has taken in as one of his own. When Aaron travels out of town to purchase adjacent land for farming, Ellie agrees to watch his children, but the season’s festivities are threatened when Aaron goes missing.
I really enjoyed watching this movie. It has a little bit of everything – drama, a love interest, and action – to keep the plot moving through the almost 3-hour long movie (broken into Part I and Part II). My 8-year old son joined me for the end of the movie, and it seemed to keep his attention (except during any love interest parts 🙂 ).
Although the title indicates the movie is about Christmas, it’s not so prominent in the storyline that you can’t watch it year-round. However, I did love the Christmas angle of the movie where the town works together to celebrate Christmas, even if it’s different than how they had originally thought it would be.
The best part – it’s a movie that the whole family can watch together. There are a few vivid scenes featuring a tornado and guns, so it’s not likely for very young children, though.
20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has offered to give three (3) lucky readers a copy of the Love’s Christmas Journey DVD.
You must be at least 18 years old and a U.S. resident to win.
