In my quest for a slower and more meaningful December spent with friends and family, I plan on completing 30 Days of tasks to get ready for Christmas before Thanksgiving...and I invite you to join me.
Day 20: Gather Favorite Holiday Dinner Recipes
Today's the day to start thinking about your holiday dinner (especially if you're in charge of making a big dinner for Christmas). I want you to start gathering your favorite holiday dinner recipes so you can start thinking about your menu.
If you're perfectly organized or make the same dishes each year - great! Today's task will be super easy.
However, if you are perhaps hosting dinner for the first time (or bringing along a new dish to a holiday potluck), now is a good time to call your mother-in-law to get the recipe you've always meant to ask for. Or perhaps you can search the internet for some fun new recipes. I would suggest that you try them out on your family now, rather than hope they turn out on the big day.
Our Holiday Dinner:
For the last couple of years, we've either spent Christmas at my in-laws or my parents. My parents did come to our house one year, and they are planning on coming to our house again this year.
I grew up eating turkey for Christmas dinner, but my in-laws always do ham in the slow cooker with cheesy potatoes. I love the idea of an easy Christmas dinner that's slowly warming up in the slow cooker while we open gifts and celebrate Christmas, so I plan on cooking a ham with cheesy potatoes, etc.
I got the cheesy potatoes recipe several years ago from my mother-in-law, but I need to check that I still have it. Plus, I need to think about what other items we might possibly have on our menu and pull the recipes.
What about you? Do you have a Christmas dinner tradition?
