My Betty Crocker Party Cakes

I grew up watching my mom make birthday cakes for my sister and I.  So, as soon as I had kids, I also started to make their birthday cakes.  Over the years, I have made a wide variety of cakes from Pooh to Curious George to a 3D Lightning McQueen.

This year, my 4 year old wanted a Buzz Lightyear cake.  I didn’t want to try to draw a Buzz onto the cake, so I did a quick internet search and found the space/planet idea to make things a little more simple.  He LOVED it…and he loved the fact that he got to keep the Buzz and spaceship when he was done blowing out the candles.

I guess all the cakes that I’ve brought to family birthday parties over the years, inspired my sister-in-law to ask me to make the graduation cake for our niece’s open house last weekend, too.

What do all my cakes have in common?  I have made them all with Betty Crocker cake mixes. Betty Crocker cakes always turn out yummy and moist for me.  My favorite cake mix is the Betty Crocker Butter Recipe Chocolate :-) .

Plus, I personally request the Betty Crocker Whipped Chocolate Frosting on my own birthday cakes that my MIL makes and the Vanilla Frosting is great on sugar cookies.

BettyCrocker.com has some great cake ideas to get you started on your own party cake…as well as how-to videos.

I know this is a little lame, but my absolute FAVORITE is the rainbow chip! With the frosting! I know, I know, not a very “grown up” flavor, but I think I’m trying to make up for the fact that my mom would never buy it for me as a kid.

I also saw on their website that they have butter pecan. I’ve never seen that before and I’m jealous of everyone that gets to have it in their store!

Typically I like chocolate the best. After reading some of the comments I think I might try the Supermoist White cake…might be good with lemon filling in the middle too. Love the pics of all your cakes!

I can’t really pick a favorite! Today we had Triple Chocolate Fudge, which I LOVE! But my husband isn’t quite as excited about chocolate: He would prefer French Vanilla or Butter Yellow or Butter Pecan (which makes great cake cookies too). And the kids, of course, would choose Rainbow Chip!
