Jennifer at Getting Ahead is hosting a Weekly Wrap-up on Fridays. I thought I would join this week, and see how it goes for the future. Basically, I thought I would use it to keep myself accountable each week and also to give you ideas how to save money yourself.
This was kind of a different week, since we were only home Tuesday, Friday, and half of Monday due to traveling for Christmas and New Year’s. Here it goes:
- While we were gone, we turned our heat down to 63 to save money (I would do 60, but my husband’s paranoid ever since our furnace broke while we were gone for Thanksgiving).
- I keep my heat at 68 during the day (while we’re home) and turn it down to 66 at night (we used to do 60 at night prekids…but we want to keep them warm, since the 2 year old can’t seem to stay under covers). When I leave for an extended period of time, I turn the heat down to 65 or so.
- My husband is pulling the cash this afternoon that I need for my cash-only experiment on lunches and “little” things (from my New Year’s goals).
- I printed out my Motivated Moms planner for the year and started using it.
- I printed out some coupons and added new ecoupons at Upromise.
- I called my bank and FINALLY got my account set up to download into Microsoft Money again. That will save me lots of time in keeping track of our budget.
- I got some freebies in the mail that I will use to save money.
- When we were at my in-laws church on Wed. night, they offered free day-old Panera Bread (the pastor picks it up each week). I got a loaf of French bread and froze it. I used half of it tonight to make homemade garlic bread with our spaghetti and refroze the other half for next week.
What did you do this week to save some money? To see how others frugal week’s went, check out Getting Ahead.

thanks so much for participating. It sounds like you had a great week even though you weren’t home much. Happy New Year!
