Works for Me Wednesday – My Recipe Binder

My most important tool in the kitchen is my recipe binder. Back when I was a single girl, I got a subscription to one of those recipe magazines where they show a picture of every recipe. I had to have the picture, since I’m rather picky, and I like to see whether something is going to “look” good. So, when I got married, I had a box of these magazines, plus a loose stack of recipes that I had torn out of magazines, printed off the internet, etc. Every once in awhile, I’d go through the magazines and try to highlight some recipes to try, but it was rather overwhelming, and I rarely used any of them.

Then, a couple of years ago, I came up with the idea to go through all my recipes, and cut out the ones I was interested in. I taped both the picture and the recipe to a piece of paper and put it in a sheet protector in my binder. And then…I recycled the rest of the magazine. The recipes are organized in my binder by appetizer, main dish, salad, dessert, etc. It takes up much less space than a boxful of recipe magazines, and best of all…I use it all the time!

That is an awesome idea! My recipes are so scattered, it takes more time to find the recipe than it does to make it.

That is a great idea…good thing you cannot see how I store my recipies…LOL LOL

I have a recipe box full…no sort of orgaizatation at all..sometimes I have to dump everything out of teh box to find a recipe. I think I may just have to get a binder…Thanks for the tip!!

I was JUST telling my sister that I have to do this! My recipe box is a disaster, full of computer print outs that really don’t fit. Your binder looks wonderful and I really like how you put the picture there too… thanks for sharing!

Oh my gosh…I do the EXACT same thing for the EXACT same reason! I love my recipe binder too…it is a God send sometimes and takes away the clutter of all those magazines.

Blessings!

It is an awesome idea. I wish I could find the time to enact it. I know it would save time in the long run if I could

Years ago I typed up my family favorite recipes, no want-to-try or just-made-once. My kids and husband are able to just go to that binder and make any of our favorites. This year I want to take a picture of our favorites as I prepare them so I can have a bound recipe book made for each child – each recipe has a picture.
